A set of eight short animated films, selected from among the films that were shown last July in competition at the AVANCA festival, will be screened in this town, situated on the banks of the lake with the same name, near the border of Estonia and Russia.
"15 Billion Slices of (-t) + God" by Cláudio Jordão and "Tears of a Clown" by Cláudio Sá, will be the Portuguese films screened in this event.
The german film "Loom" by Jan Bitzer, Ilija Brunck and Csaba Letay, awarded the animation prize in AVANCA 2012 and "Borderline" by the Swiss Dustin Rees, awarded a special mention at the same event are part of this selection of works on display.
The program is complemented by the films "Koffie" (Netherlands) by Sjaak Rood, "Itsihitanantsu" (Russia) by Natalia Ryss, "Moirai" (Germany) by Kerstin Unger and Jasper Diekamp and "Prohveti Sund" (Estonia) by Heidmets Rao, filmmaker who has regularly exhibited his work in AVANCA, and in 2000 directed a workshop of three-dimensional puppet animation.
All these films premiered in our country during "AVANCA 2012 - International Meeting of Cinema, Television, Video and Multimedia."
This first “AVANCA International Film Festival in Alūksne - animation 2012”, is the first collaboration between the festival and the local institution ABJC (Alūksnes Bernu un Jauniešu Centrs), programmed by Clarissa Rodrigues and Eunice Castro.
This audiovisual sharing initiative between the two villages seeks to establish a bridge between the two countries on opposite sides of Europe.
Being the first time that AVANCA Film Festival promotes an extension in the Baltic countries, this is not, however, the first time that the festival is presented in other countries. AVANCA has already been presented in Cuba, France, Greece, Italy and Japan, maintaining partnerships with several international organizations.
Meanwhile, the last arrangements for AVANCA 2013 are on progress. This year the festival starts s on the 20 July and will have its international competition from 24 to 28 July.
